Community Life

We're Glad to have you

The St. Michael's Community extends well beyond the walls of the school. From the present, to the past, and into the future, St. Michael's strives to include students, parents, faculty, alumni, and friends in as many aspects of the school as possible.

We hope that this Community Life section of the website will now allow us to extend our community from the physical into the virtual. The pages within this section provide opportunities to get involved and to stay in touch. We hope that you will take advantage of all of them.

Get Involved in Strategic Planning

The Board of Trustees, in conjunction with the faculty and administration, has begun the process of determining the direction that the School is going to take over the next five or so years, and how it will get there.

The centerpiece of all successful strategic planning is strategic analysis, and a large part of that analysis includes an understanding of major issues and opportunities as identified by our community.

Taste the Flavors of a Newport Summer!

In spring of 2006, the Parents Association at St. Michael’s Country Day School released its first printing of Flavors of a Newport Summer, an illustrated compilation of recipes and menus based on events considered synonymous with Newport in its summer mode. The cookbook features recipes submitted by families, faculty, and staff, as well as from twenty-one local restaurants and inns. The project was a huge success; the book, as they say, flew off the shelves (even seasoned chefs commented on how great were the recipes), and the proud Parents Association has just released the second printing, in time for the summer of 2007. The exuberant artwork is a combination of works by St. Michael’s students and prominent local artists. All money raised from the cookbook sales will be earmarked for school activities, assemblies, field trips, and materials for classroom support.
