St. Michael's is an independent, coeducational, nondenominational school for children from preschool through eighth grade. Founded in 1938, the school's historic, seven-acre campus is located near the heart of Newport, Rhode Island. St. Michael's offers a challenging curriculum taught in a caring, respectful environment. It is the mission of the school to educate the whole child's mind, body, spirit, and character.

Why Parents Choose St. Michael's

In 2008, we conducted a survey of our community to determine exactly what our parents valued in the St. Michael's experience. Overwhelmingly, they described how much they value the small class sizes, dedicated teachers, individual attention, and emphasis on helping each child achieve personal success. Parents choose St. Michael's for the emphasis that we place on values, respect for the identity of others, and striving to create thoughtful, caring students.

What Our Graduates Say

"Finishing my second week here at Pomfret, I just thought I'd let you know how much St. Michael's has done for me. Already, with people situations, academic areas, and athletics, I feel just so prepared. It occurred to me the other day about how amazing St. Michael's is... Keep it up, and pass this on to the Middle School students. It's something worth hearing: St. Michael's is an amazing place, Mr. Slade."

- From a recent graduate, in a letter to Head of School Whitney Slade
