TASM Movie Screening at the Pickens tomorrow!

July 7th, 2011

Dear parents of Movie Campers;

First, let me tell you how much amazing work all the movie campers have done!  I’m very impressed by their creativity, energy, and teamwork to take on such huge projects, and love the stories that they have come up with for all three movies – Misunderstood Monsters, NCIS: the Worst of the Best, and The Mystery of Mr. E. We have had days full of actors running around in full costume muttering lines to memorize, and crew valiantly setting up for shot after shot.  There are a few final pickups being filmed today, and I just came from the editing lab where the pieces are all being put together.  It’s a lot to do but they’re doing a great job, and I can’t wait to see Friday’s screening!

As for tomorrow the 8th, campers will be taken from camp to the Jane Pickens Theatre for their final screening by bus, and you can meet us there.  The screening will start at 2:00 and will last until the movies are done (we don’t quite have a running time yet…), so you can take them with you when it’s over.  Campers will all receive a ticket good for popcorn and a drink, and the refreshment stand will be open for everyone else to purchase what they’d like.

Everyone will get a DVD copy of the final project, which will be compiled and copied in the weeks following camp.  The t-shirts might be done by tomorrow, but more likely by next week (our screen printers moved this week, and we’re the first job on their list once everything is set up in their new place).  I’ll give you all a call when both shirts and DVDs are ready, so you can drop by to pick them up if you’re near, or so I can mail them to you if you’re far.

I can’t believe that we’re almost done with this session of camp already!  Please put the performance dates of other summer shows on your calendars so you can come back and see what else is in store.  The Comedy of Errors will perform on Friday July 15th and Saturday July 16th at 7:00.  The original musical will perform on Friday July 29th and Saturday July 30th at 7:00, and A Winter’s Tale will be on Friday August 12th and Saturday August 13th, also at 7:00.  I’d love to see any and all of you there!

Please give me a call if you have any questions.  I can’t wait to see you (and the final film) tomorrow!

Sincerely yours,  Christina Johnston, TASM Camp Director

TASM Musical Camp starts Monday!

July 6th, 2011

Dear Musical Campers and Parents;

We’re right around the corner from the beginning of the Theatre at St. Michael’s Musical Camp, and I just wanted to touch bases with all of you.  The faculty and I, along with all of the counselors, are looking forward to the burst of creative energy that will mark the beginning of our tenth summer’s original musical.  So please make sure to bring lots of imagination with you!  Our performances will be on Friday, July 29th and Saturday, July 30th at 7:00, so don’t forget to mark those dates on your calendar!

Registration is at 9:00 on Monday morning, July 11th, at the lobby of Hill House (the gym), and I’ll need to see parents as well as the campers for a few moments at the beginning of the first day to make sure all your paperwork is in order.  If you have a balance to pay, or forms to fill out, you can do that then.  There are three forms I will need to have on Monday morning along with our registration and payment – the medical form, the dismissal form, and a lunch form (if you’re planning to participate in the camp lunches). but Please don’t forget to get a copy of your immunization records for me to have on file as well.

Please use the Gibbs Ave. parking lot for drop-off and pick-up – that avoids a traffic jam with the Summer at St. Michael’s campers.  Campers need to be picked up by 4:00, and as early as 3:00 is fine if they don’t want to swim.

If you’d like to have the camp lunch on the first day, please leave me a message indicating cheese or pepperoni ahead of time so I can call in the order.  Otherwise, please remember to bring your lunch!  It’s also a good idea to pack a snack, as well as bottled juice or water (especially good since it’s so hot out…).  Of course, don’t forget your bathing suit and a towel for pool time at the end of each day as well.  For those of you who may not want to swim, bring a good book or playing cards if you’d like.

I think that’s all the information I need to give you before we get started, but feel free to call if you have any questions.  The Theatre at St. Michael’s voice mail is 849-5970 x411, and the camp cell phone is 401-207-7699.  Thanks, and I’ll see you all very soon!  I can’t wait to see what’s in store this year…

 Sincerely, Christina Johnston (TASM Camp Director)

TASM Teen Camp Starts Tuesday!

June 28th, 2011

Dear Comedy of Errors Campers and Parents;

We’re right around the corner from the beginning of the Theatre at St. Michael’s Teen Shakespeare Camp, and I just wanted to touch bases with all of you.  The faculty and I, along with all of the counselors, can’t wait to start working on “The Comedy of Errors.”  So please make sure to bring lots of energy and imagination with you!  We will have our final performances on Friday July 15th and Saturday July 16th at 7:00, so save those dates on your calendar.

Registration is at 10:30 on Tuesday morning, July 5th, at the lobby of Hill House (the gym), and I’ll need parents to check in for a few moments at the beginning of the first day to make sure all your paperwork is in order.  If you have a balance to pay, or forms to fill out, you can do that then.  I’ll need to have your medical and carpool forms, and please don’t forget to get a copy of your immunization records for me to have on file as well.

Please use the Gibbs Ave. parking lot for drop-off and pick-up – that avoids a traffic jam with the Summer at St. Michael’s campers.  Don’t forget that the Teen Camp day begins at 10:30, so you can sleep in a smidge.  Campers need to be picked up by 4:00, and as early as 3:00 is fine if they don’t want to swim.  (We may decide to push rehearsals till 3:30, with a final ½ hour of free time – that will be up to the campers.)

To have lunch on the first day of camp, please call and leave a message for me or jot me an email indicating that you want to join us, and also indicating your preference – turkey or roast beef sub (or a Greek salad instead).  Otherwise, remember to bring your lunch!  It’s also a good idea to pack a snack, as well as bottled juice or water (especially good when it gets hot out…).  Of course, don’t forget your bathing suit and a towel for pool time at the end of each day as well.  For those of you who may not want to swim, bring a good book or playing cards if you’d like.

I think that’s all the information I need to give you before we get started, but feel free to call if you have any questions.  My camp cell phone is 401-207-7699, or the Theatre at St. Michael’s voice mail is 849-5970 x411.  Thanks, and I’ll see you all very soon!  I can’t wait to see what’s in store this year…

Summer at St. Michael’s Camp 2011

April 3rd, 2011

      We are on the website with all the 2011 camp listings.  We have three new Enrichment Camps to offer this year, they are:  Chess, Knitting and SSAT Prep.  We have already had a lot of interest in all of our Enrichment Camps this year, so please do not hold-off registering; space is limited and they tend to fill quickly. We have also extended our Pottery Camp program for the older campers to a two week program.  We have some exciting new clay tools to introduce and there will be ample time to create, glaze and fire many masterpieces! Again, we will extend our camp day by 45 minutes to allow for a free-swim opportunity daily.  Should you desire to go swimming after camp, simply let your instructor know.

      Our Morning Adventurers program for the 3’s, 4’s and 5’s also has limited enrollment and fills quickly.  This year we request that the campers come dressed to swim, with their play clothes packed for them to change into after swim.  The 5’s will continue to swim first, beginning at 9:30 daily, followed by the 4’s and then the 3’s each half hour accordingly.  Having the campers ready for the pool will provide them extra time to enjoy the other activities we engage in during our Morning Adventurers programs.

     We revisit a few of our favorite themes in our Junior Adventurers programs and we’ve added a few new that we think will become new additions in years to come. We try to add staff rather than limit enrollment in the Junior Adventurers programs as much as possible.  That said, some of the camps do have space or technical constraints; so please be advised that those particular camps will necessitate enrollment restrictions.

       Finally our Sports Camps will be available to all interested campers all season long!  Our acreage allows for many simultaneous activities. You may see a science experiment shooting up into the big blue sky while you are tripping over yourselves during a three-legged relay. Dodging three year olds, headed to the pool for their morning swim, may be the only reason to slow down the pace, because there is always some sort competition or race.  Coach Pasha and his staff have a ton of fun in store this year and he is hoping to see many of his team mates on our grassy fields honing their sports skills!

       Take a look what we offer this summer and please contact Mary Coaty, should you have any further questions.  We can’t wait to June 27th for another sun-filled summer of fun!

Summer at St. Michael’s general information can be found on our St. Michael’s school website by following the Summer Programs link at the top of the home page.  Please go to:  www.stmichaelscountryday.org to check out camp 2011 information.

Thank you and hope to see you soon!
