I would like to thank all the TASM campers and parents for a wonderful summer of creativity, teamwork, and great performances!  I’m proud of you all, and was so pleased to work with everyone on all four productions.

I want to remind you that the DVDs are ready – if you want to stop by and pick them up, that’s great.  Or if you would prefer that I mail them to you, please send me an email to let me know of your preference.

I hope you all have a wonderful year ahead, and can’t wait to see you back again next summer!

Take care, Christy

Shakespeare Camp starts Monday, August 3

July 27th, 2009

Hello to all Shakespeare campers!

We begin our 2-week camp of Midsummer Night’s Dream on Monday August 3, at 9:00.  I can’t wait to get started with you all!  Here are a few thoughts before we begin:

Registration is at 9:00 in Hill House.  Check your email for more information, and a few forms to fill out and bring in.  There should be a medical form (in case I don’t already have it), a carpool/dismissal form, and a lunch form.  If you are planning to participate in our lunch program and would like to order lunch on the first Monday, please email (or voicemail) me and let me know if you would prefer cheese or pepperoni pizza so I can place the order.   Otherwise don’t forget to bring lunch, a snack and drink, and a bathing suit and towel for the pool at the end of the day.

Don’t forget to set aside Friday evening the 14th and Saturday evening the 15th for our performances, both at 7:00.  I am so excited to see how it all turns out, so bring lots of energy and imagination with you next week!

If you have any questions, email me at cjohnston@smcds.org or give a call at 401-849-5970 x411.

See you soon, Christy

Congrats to Movie Campers & Merchant of Venice

July 27th, 2009

I just wanted to congratulate the Movie campers on “Clue Me In: the movie” which was finally shown at SMS last Friday, and was thoroughly entertaining!  The dvds will be copied and mailed out to you shortly – great job!

And I also want to give a huge round of applause to the cast & techmonkey of The Merchant of Venice.  You did wonderful work, and should be very proud of yourselves for the tremendous undertaking.  I truly enjoyed working with you, and look forward to (hopefully) getting another chance next summer!  In the meantime, you will all get dvds too – as soon as they are copied.

Take care, Christy

Teen Camp Starts Tuesday July 7th

June 30th, 2009

Dear Merchant of Venice Campers and Parents;

We\’re right around the corner from the beginning of the Theatre at St. Michael\’s Teen Shakespeare Camp, and I just wanted to touch bases with all of you.  The faculty and I, along with all of the counselors, can\’t wait to start working on \”The Merchant of Venice\”.  So please make sure to bring lots of energy and imagination with you!  We will have our final performances on Friday July 17th and Saturday July 18th at 7:00, so save those dates on your calendar.

Registration is at 10:30 on Monday morning, July 7th, at the lobby of Hill House (the gym), and I\’ll need parents to check in for a few moments at the beginning of the first day to make sure all your paperwork is in order.  If you have a balance to pay, or forms to fill out, you can do that then.  I am including a carpool form for you to bring with you on the 7th, as well as a lunch form for those of you who would like it, and another copy of the medical form in case you haven\’t sent that in yet.  Please don\’t forget to get a copy of your immunization records for me to have on file as well.

Please use the Gibbs Ave. parking lot for drop-off and pick-up - that avoids a traffic jam with the Summer at St. Michael\’s campers.  Campers need to be picked up by 4:00, and as early as 3:00 is fine if they don\’t want to swim.  (We may decide to push rehearsals till 3:30, with a final ½ hour of free time - that will be up to the campers.)

To have lunch on the first day of camp, please call and leave a message for me or jot me an email. Otherwise, remember to bring your lunch!  It\’s also a good idea to pack a snack, as well as bottled juice or water (especially good when it gets hot out!).  Of course, don\’t forget your bathing suit and a towel for pool time at the end of each day as well.  For those of you who may not want to swim, bring a good book or playing cards if you\’d like.

I think that\’s all the information I need to give you before we get started, but feel free to call if you have any questions.  My camp cell phone is 401-207-7699, or the Theatre at St. Michael\’s voice mail is 849-5970 x411.  Thanks, and I\’ll see you all very soon!  I can\’t wait to see what\’s in store this year!

Sincerely,

Christina Johnston (Camp Director)

P.S.  Please don\’t forget that we are closed on Monday July 6th for a belated Independence Day holiday.  Camp begins on Tuesday!
P.P.S.  We still have openings for a number of actors in this show, so if you know anyone who might like to join us, please encourage them to give me a call!

Movie camp starts Monday!

June 23, 2009

Dear Movie Campers and Parents;

We’re right around the corner from the beginning of the Theatre at St. Michael’s Movie Production Camp, and I just wanted to touch bases with all of you.  The faculty and I, along with all of the counselors, are looking forward to the burst of creative energy that will mark the beginning of our eighth summer of camp.  So please make sure to bring lots of imagination with you!  Our movie will have an exciting showing again this year – at the Jane Pickens Theater on the big screen!  So don’t forget to set aside Friday, July 10th at 2:00 to come to our world premiere screening!

Registration is at 9:00 on Monday morning, June 29th, at the lobby of Hill House (the gym), and I’ll need parents to check in for a few moments at the beginning of the first day to make sure all your paperwork is in order.  If you have a balance to pay, or forms to fill out, you can do that then.

Please use the Gibbs Ave. parking lot for drop-off and pick-up – that avoids a traffic jam with the Summer at St. Michael’s campers.  Campers need to be picked up by 4:00, and as early as 3:00 is fine if they don’t want to swim.

To have pizza lunch on the first day of camp, please just call and leave a message for me or jot me an email indicating cheese or pepperoni.  Otherwise, remember to bring your lunch!  It’s also a good idea to pack a snack, as well as bottled juice or water (especially good when it gets hot out…).  Of course, don’t forget your bathing suit and a towel for pool time at the end of each day as well.  For those of you who may not want to swim, bring a good book or playing cards if you’d like.

Sincerely,

Christina Johnston (Camp Director)

Theatre at St. Michael’s camps are filling fast!

May 13th, 2009

Space is filling up in the TASM camps.  As of May 13, the tech monkey spots in both Musical and Shakespeare – Midsummer Night’s Dream are full, and we have very limited acting space in both of those camps.  Movie camp and Teen Shakespeare – Merchant of Venice have more space, but registrations are coming in steadily and those should fill soon.  If you have questions about availability before sending in a registration and deposit, call me at 849-5970 x411 or email cjohnston@smcds.org.

Hope to see you this summer!

Christy Johnston, camp director

Summer 2009

January 5th, 2009

Theatre at St. Michael’s summer 2009 information UPDATE!

I’m pleased to tell you all that planning for this summer is well on its way, and that I’m definitely going to be around again!  Last summer was just too much fun for me to leave…  So, camp brochures are getting put together, and should be in the mail in mid February.  In the meantime, here’s what’s in store.

We will start the summer off with Movie Camp, which will run from June 29th – July 10th, with a screening on the 10th.   The Teen Shakespeare Intensive will produce “The Merchant of Venice,” and run from July 7th – 17th, with performances on the 17th and 18th.  (For both of those sessions we will be closed on the 6th of July.)  Musical Camp will run from July 13th – 31st, with performances on July 31st and August 1st.  Last but not least, our regular Shakespeare, “A Midsummer Night’s Dream,” will be from August 3rd  – August 14th, with shows on the 14th and 15th.  As you know, Teen Intensive is for ages 14 and up, while all other camps are for ages 9 – 15.  Two-week sessions will remain at $650, and the Musical session (3-week) will again cost $850.

To pre-register, please send a deposit of $100 per session, made out to Theatre at St. Michael’s, along with a note specifying which session, and acting or tech as a preference (tech is not applicable to the Video session).  Call or email me if you have any questions.

I’m very excited about the programs this summer – I look forward to hearing back from you, and to seeing many of you again this summer…

Christina Johnston, Director, Theatre at St. Michael’s

We hope to see you when the weather gets warm!  In the meantime, Happy New Year!
