Preparing for the Digital Age
At St. Michael's, we see technology as an integral part of our students' learning process. We accomplish this through a combination of easy access to computers, projectors, SMARTBoards, and printers, as well as formal instruction for both the students and faculty.
All classrooms have at least one computer, and there is a new computer lab on campus. The Computer Lab in the Van Beuren Building allows students to access 17 new Macs, a SMARTBoard, and a variety of other resources.
With the completion of the new building, there will also be 3 new resources on campus. In addition to the 3rd and 4th grade SMARTBoard room, a new 1st and 2nd grade SMARTBoard is being installed on the first floor of the Hill House. The Middle School will have a computer and projector in their new break-out classroom, and the new Library Classroom will have a SMARTboard system installed. Additional computers will also be available in the new library and tutoring spaces.
Technology Curriculum
The Director of Technology coordinates and collaborates with all classroom teachers in order to successfully integrate technology into the curriculum. In addition to gaining word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, and Internet research skills, students further their study of classroom materials through virtual field trips, interactive projects, and technology-assisted discussions.
We also provide opportunities throughout the year for our faculty to increase their knowledge of technology. Periodic workshops range from the use of SMARTBoards and the Internet, to the creation of new lesson plans and curriculum.
Technology Resources
We have embarked in a new direction here at St. Michael's. Last year, we updated this website, replaced most of the Middle School classroom computers, and turned over the Computer Lab. In 06-07, we will replace Lower School classroom computers, open the new SMARTBoard classrooms, and introduce a web-based Student Information System called PowerSchool.
For more information about technology, and technology projects, at St. Michael's, please feel free to check out our St. Michael's Sub-Web. This new, dynamic site features student projects, technology resources to use at home, Middle School homework, and links to other St. Michael's sites such as the Virtual Computer Lab and Virtual Library.
